where to buy natural beauty products
Beautycounter is known for their clean, non-toxic formulas that are filled with all-natural and organic ingredients. Even cooler: Gregg Renfrew, the brand founder, and her team have been pushing for stricter, safer regulations in the cosmetics space. One of my favorite products from the line is this nourishing eye cream. I swear it makes me look like I got eight hours of sleep, thanks to moisturizing shea butter and squalane, and it wears really nicely under my concealer.
Juice Beauty is one of the OG organic beauty brands in the U.S. and one of my holy-grail products in the line is this oil-free moisturizer. It uses certified-organic grape, pomegranate and aloe vera to hydrate and soothe skin without feeling heavy or clogging your pores.
Although I continually work to be a deliberate consumer, I give myself a little more wiggle room when it comes to beauty products because, I reason, the products get used up rather than becoming household clutter. (Alas, the same cannot be said of my bag addiction, as my husband can attest.)
Araza is a sister owned and operated clean beauty company. We make the world's first paleo certified makeup with organic plant based extracts, healthy fats and natural earth minerals. #iflookscouldheal
There are a wide variety of skin care products on the market today, some of which are synthetic and some of which are natural. While all of these products have the potential to be beneficial, natural products are generally the better choice of the two.
Natural skincare products forego the use of such ingredients, and so don't necessitate mining. And because they use only natural ingredients, they cause no harm to the surrounding plants and animals.
When compared to synthetic skincare products, natural skincare products are much safer. This is because the ingredients contained within natural products are much safer than those contained in synthetic products.
It is good to choose natural skin care products for our skin. Natural skin care products contain natural ingredients which are good to make our skin looks glowing and healthy. I love how it is also safer to use and to the environment.
Take a walk down any beauty aisle and you'll see labels boasting "natural," "organic," and "eco-friendly" ingredients. With more and more so-called "green" options on the market, you might wonder if these products are safer or offer more benefits than their traditional counterparts. Before you invest in these products, read what our experts have to say about whether going natural is better than the man-made alternatives.
The guidelines about using "organic" on a label are clearer. The U.S. Department of Agriculture sets rules around the definition, and beauty products must follow the same production and handling standards as organic food. The USDA requires manufacturers to use approved methods that conserve the environment. Synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, irradiation, and genetic engineering may not be used. For a product to be labeled USDA 100% Organic, it must contain only organically produced ingredients, excluding water and salt. To carry a USDA Organic label, the product must contain at least 95% organically produced ingredients, again, excluding water and salt.
Determining how natural a product is requires a bit of research. Check where natural ingredients fall on the label. The first items listed appear in the highest concentration; the less there is of the ingredient, the later it's listed.
Making the determination as to whether natural products are better is an even more confusing task. "The preference for a product free of synthetic additives and unnecessary preservatives, or anything that could harm your metabolism, makes sense," Schlessinger says. "But sometimes the 'purest' products might not be the most effective."
Much of what consumers seek to avoid are preservatives like parabens and phthalates. The problem is that natural preservatives may not work as well, Schlessinger says. That means natural products tend to have a shorter shelf life. So buying natural may require you to pay closer attention to expiration dates and how you store your products.
"With natural and organic products, you may be sacrificing efficacy to satisfy someone's definition of the word 'natural,'" Schueller says. "You have to consider what the product claims to do, how well the formula will deliver against those claims, and how much the product costs."

Overall, 76% of women who said they buy some natural/organic products buy natural/organic BPC products as well. Of those, 95% say they buy more natural BPC products than they did 10 years ago, and 89% said they buy more organic BPC products than 10 years ago. Each time they shop for these kinds of products, 70% said there is a natural/organic BPC product in their shopping bags either half the time or up to every time.
We asked women where they most often buy their natural/organic BPC products, and Amazon.com came out on top, with 52% of total natural/organic BPC buyers saying this is their top destination. Beauty specialty stores were second at 47%, with superstores such as Target and Walmart coming in third at 43%.
We asked all women surveyed, regardless if they currently buy natural/organic BPC products or not, what they buy now and, importantly, where opportunities exist for product category success (T-2). More than one-third of women have bought both natural and organic lip balms (35%). Thirty-one percent (31%) have purchased natural and organic oils and body moisturizer, followed by shampoo and facial moisturizer (28%), masks and body wash (27%), facial cleanser and body scrub (26%), and toothpaste (25%), representing the top current natural and organic personal care product on the list.
We asked natural/organic BPC buyers to estimate how much money they spend on natural/organic BPC products per month for various product categories (T-3). Gen X, more often than not, spends the most money per natural/organic category, and baby boomers the least.
When women are considering the purchase of any beauty or personal care brand, product efficacy is her top concern. Ninety-five percent of all women surveyed said they look for a product that does what it says it will do when considering the purchase of a beauty product. Current natural/organic BPC buyers are a bit more influenced by positive reviews and product claims than non-buyers, but most categories remain statistically even, with the exception of natural or organic attributes.
In our next installment, Part 3, we will take a look at the male point of view about natural/organic BPC products, wellness trends, cannabinoids as a beauty product ingredient, and which categories and brands are leading natural and organic beauty today. Then, in Part 4, we will touch on the makings of an effective natural or organic personal care or beauty brand product story, package design associations, and tips from the pros on marketing and branding in the natural and organic space. n
Marisa Weiss, director of breast radiation oncology at Lankenau Medical Center and president and founder of breastcancer.org, urges people to think about what we put on our bodies in the same way that we think about what goes in them, and to err on the side of caution, since some ingredients in beauty products are still mysteries.
Thus, more than nine out of ten French women (92%) buy natural or organic cosmetics at least once a year, and nearly six out of ten opt for these products at least once every 3 months.
Furthermore, if the pandemic has boosted sales in local retail and boosted the interest in locally made products, it seems that this is not (yet) the case in the beauty sector. Only 8% of respondents say that local production and/or made in France labels are a source of motivation for purchasing cosmetic products. This might be explained by the strong position of the French industry in this business. French made products brands are therefore widely available on shelves, a notable difference compared to many other market segments.
The study also reveals that French women prefer supermarkets rather than specialized shops to purchase organic or natural cosmetics. When asked where they buy organic and natural products, 76% of French women mention large and medium-sized retails, then pharmacies and para-pharmacies (41%), e-commerce (25%), and finally specialized organic stores (17%).
Beyond organic and natural, the Slow Cosmetique seal also seems to interest French women. Created by French-based Slow Cosmétique Association, the seal is awarded to brands that promote responsible natural skincare, with formulas that are free from controversial ingredients in terms of health or environmental impact, and which are also committed to developing equally healthy marketing, without greenwashing or outlandish promises. Eight out of ten French women said such a seal is interesting and 92% believe it helps the beauty industry to move in the right direction. For nearly nine out of ten women (88%), it increases their confidence in the product. To date, 313 brands have been awarded the Slow Cosmétique seal.
